Purpose: We estimated variation with the value of chest nodules volume in Chest CT image compare to reconstruction technique between the Hybrid Iterative Reconstruction (Hybrid IR) and the Filtered Back projection (FBP).
Material and methods: We inserted three different chest nodules, which of diameters were 12mm, 10mm, and 8mm in the Lungman phantom. And phantom images were obtained 30 times and were reconstructed in 4 steps IR each by GE and Toshiba CT(120kVp, 300mA, standard algorithm). We compared after volume was measured by AW volume share 5. Statistics were obtained by using PASW Statistical 18. Release 18.0.0.
Result: From this study, the value of average was overestimated compared to the actual value in CT image from GE and Toshiba equipment. Regardless of the size of the nodule and type of equipment, the magnification was the largest with reconstructed by FBP and was overestimated up to 12.4% of the actual volume. As the Hybrid IR intensity was increased, the magnification rate of the volume gradually was decreased. There was a difference of 2.46% at maximum compared to FBP(p<0.05)
Conclusion: The volume of chest nodule obtained by image reconstruction in CT scan was overestimated than the actual value. According to decreased of noise, volume of chest nodule was closed to the actual value as the intensity of Hybrid IR was increased than the image by FBP technique. However, the Hybrid IR technique was also caused overestimation of nodule volume. So, adapted correction was required to prevent the errors of reading and treatment in Chest CT scan.
